Initial evaluations may either be scheduled as one 90 minute appointment or two separate 45 minute appointments.
Therapy sessions can be with an individual or family, and performed in conjunction with medication management. Dr. Matias Akhtar is well versed in psychodynamic psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and positive psychotherapy.

Remember the saying “you are what you eat.” Well, it’s true when it comes to mental health. Although a healthy diet alone may not completely treat mental illness, a poor diet can sabotage progress. Key nutrients include B vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids, iron, fat soluble vitamins, zinc, magnesium, probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber.
There are numerous studies supporting that spirituality and religiosity lead to better mental and physical health outcomes, however, this is rarely discussed in the medical world. I hope my patients feel open to discussing their belief systems, so we can strengthen your treatment.
Physical activity doesn’t just help you lose weight or prevent heart disease. Exercise helps to support brain health by helping in the creation of new brain cells, improving the functioning of current brain cells, and releasing neurotransmitters which help with functioning of the brain.
